Sam Toft's earliest ambition was to work in a post office; instead she graduated from Kingston Polytechnic with a degree in Applied Social Science. Five years later Sam followed her passion and studied art at The City of Liverpool Community College. In 2003, she had a sell out solo show with John Noott Galleries, and her work continues to be in great demand both at home and abroad.

Sam is a master of creating a magical world, celebrating and capturing the intimacies and rhythms of everyday life. Over the last two years, Sam has been captivated by the World of the Mustards: Ernest Hemmingway Mustard, his dear lady wife Violet and Doris (Her Majesty) their rather grumpy, portly Jack Russell, not to mention their ever growing menagerie including Rover the Fish, Horace Duck and the most beautiful sheep in the field with long eyelashes, swanlike neck and an elfin figure disguised by a thick woollen coat: Audrey H.

'I am lucky that the accident of my birth left me at the edge of things - ever watchful, observant and compelled to link scenes and memories into some kind of a narrative. Stripes, textures, delicious whiffs, children's rhymes, eccentric characters, lovely hats, nostalgic tunes and beautiful dogs are all things that catch my attention and fuel my imagination. I am grateful to these favourite things that make my creativity possible, along with my eyes, my hands and especially my mum.' Sam Toft.
